About steve@wattslab.com
Steve Watts is co-founder of GenConverse and WattsLab, Inc., bringing decades of experience in software engineering and genealogy technology. A retired Texas Instruments engineer with expertise in systems development, Steve applies his technical background to solving the complex data challenges that genealogists face.
His journey through the evolving landscape of genealogy software—from early desktop applications through the cloud-sync era to today's AI-assisted tools—gives him firsthand understanding of both the promises and pitfalls of genealogy technology. Steve has been actively syncing trees between desktop and online platforms since 2011, accumulating hard-won knowledge about what works and what doesn't.
At GenConverse, Steve focuses on GEDCOM processing, data validation, and building tools that help genealogists manage and understand their family history data. He believes technology should serve researchers' goals rather than define them.
